-
- **INSTALL ISSUES**
-
- The 1-2-3 for Windows Install program transfers a file named 123W.INI
- to your Windows directory. 123W.INI contains the 1-2-3 for Windows default
- settings. Comments in 123W.INI explain the settings.
-
- A second file, 123MM.INI, contains default settings for the Multimedia
- SmartHelp components of 1-2-3.
-
- Please make sure that your Windows drive has at least one megabyte (1MB) of
- space available before installing.
-
-
- **SOUND SUPPORT**
-
- You can install and use 1-2-3 successfully even if you do not have a sound
- board in your system. You will get text captions instead of sound in the
- Guided Tour and in Show Me movies, and you will not be able to turn sound on.
- If you later install a sound board (and set up its driver) you will get
- sound automatically.
-
- Using the PC Speaker driver with Multimedia SmartHelp is not recommended
- because this driver causes the PC to "lock up" while sound is playing.
- This prevents movies from operating properly.
-
-
- **PLAYING THE GUIDED TOUR IN AUTORUN MODE**
-
- You can set up the Guided Tour to automatically run through each section
- without the need to press any controls. When the Tour reaches the end, it
- repeats from the beginning.
-
- To play the Tour in autorun mode, select the Tour icon in the Program
- Manager, choose File Properties, and add one of the following parameters
- to the command line:
-
- /a Autorun the entire Tour with sound
- /at Autorun the entire Tour silently (show text captions)
- /m Autorun the Multimedia section of the Tour with sound
- /mt Autorun the Multimedia section of the Tour silently
-
-
- **UPGRADING FROM OTHER RELEASES OF 1-2-3**
-
- If you are upgrading from 1-2-3 Release 2.3 or 3.1, Lotus recommends that
- you let Install create a new program directory for your 1-2-3 for Windows
- files. Copy your worksheets, graphics, format files, and any other data
- files to a data directory before you erase the old 1-2-3 program files.
-
- If you are upgrading from 1-2-3 for Windows Release 1.0 (not 1.0a), and you
- want column-width compatibility with 1-2-3 for Windows Release 1.0a and 1.1,
- and 1-2-3 Release 3.1 and 2.3, enter the following as the last two lines of
- 123W.INI (make sure you type the lines exactly as they appear):
-
- [DEFAULT_PITCH]
- pitch=12
-
- These lines set the 1-2-3 for Windows column default width, in inches. 1-2-3
- determines the default column width by multiplying the width of the
- column, in characters, by the font's character width (specified in pitch=).
-
- The value that follows pitch= can be any number from 6 to 24.
-
- To change the default column width based on the size of the default font,
- as in 1-2-3 for Windows Release 1.0, set pitch=0.
-
-
- **NETWORK ISSUES**
-
- If you run Windows from a network server, you will be able to install
- Adobe Type Manager only if you have write access to the WINDOWS\SYSTEM
- directory while you are installing. See your network administrator to
- get write access to this directory.
-
-
- **WINDOWS AND AVAILABLE MEMORY**
-
- NOTE Windows 3.1 requires more memory than Windows 3.0, so you may need to
- free additional memory before you use 1-2-3 with Windows 3.1. If you are
- running with 4MB of memory, be sure to set a permanent swap file of at least
- 2MB.
-
- Before you start 1-2-3, find out how much memory is available by opening
- Program Manager and choosing Help About Program Manager.
-
- If less than 1800K of memory is free, you will not be able to start 1-2-3
- for Windows. Close open applications and remove memory-resident programs
- to make more memory available. Then check the amount of free memory again.
-
- If 1800K to 2300K of memory is free, you can start 1-2-3, but you may
- encounter Memory Full messages while you work.
-
- If 1800K to 2300K of memory is free, follow the steps below
- to increase the amount of available memory.
-
- 1. For maximum memory savings, remove SMARTdrive. (If you do not want to
- remove SMARTdrive, see step 2 to reduce the SMARTdrive cache size.)
-
- To remove SMARTdrive in Windows 3.0, remove the
- DEVICE=[x]:\WINDOWS\SMARTDRV.SYS statement from CONFIG.SYS.
-
- To remove SMARTdrive in Windows 3.1, remove the
- [x]:\WINDOWS\SMARTDRV.EXE statement from AUTOEXEC.BAT.
-
- You can either delete these statements or type REM in front of them.
- For example, REM DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\SMARTDRV.SYS
-
- 2. If you do not want to remove SMARTdrive, you can save memory by reducing
- the SMARTdrive cache to 256K.
-
- In Windows 3.0, edit the SMARTdrive statement in CONFIG.SYS
- so it reads DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\SMARTDRV.SYS 1024 256.
-
- In Windows 3.1, edit the SMARTdrive statement in AUTOEXEC.BAT so it reads
- C:\WINDOWS\SMARTDRV.EXE 1024 256.
-
- 3. 386 users only: Increase the Windows swap file size to at least 2MB.
- To learn how to change the swap file size, see the Microsoft Windows
- User's Guide.
-
- 4. Windows 3.1 users only: Windows 3.1 comes with a scalable font manager,
- so you can turn off ATM to maximize memory savings. To turn off ATM,
- double-click the ATM Control Panel icon. Under ATM, select Off.
- Select Exit. Restart Windows.
-
- If you encounter problems after you turn ATM off, turn ATM back on.
-
- NOTE If you use other applications, such as Freelance Graphics for
- Windows, that depend on ATM, turning off ATM may cause files from these
- applications to look slightly different, both on screen and when printed.
- Lotus recommends that you turn ATM back on before you use other
- applications that depend on it.
-
-
- **FONT USAGE**
-
- In Windows 3.0, if there are no printers installed in Windows, the Style
- Font Replace dialog box does not list any fonts under Available fonts.
-
- SELECTING PRINTERS FOR ATM SOFT FONTS
-
- Before the ATM Installer program can install soft fonts for HP LaserJet
- and PostScript printers, you must select these printers in the Windows
- Control Panel. Select your printers before you install ATM.
-
- 1. Open the Windows Control panel and select Printers.
-
- Windows displays a list of printers installed on your system.
-
- 2. If an HP LaserJet III or PostScript printer is listed, highlight it.
-
- 3. Windows 3.0 users only: Select Configure.
-
- The Printers - Configure dialog box appears.
-
- 4. Select Setup.
-
- The Setup dialog box for your printer appears.
-
- 5. Select OK twice.
-
- 6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 for each printer you want to select and then
- select OK.
-
- TRUE TYPE AND COMPATIBILITY WITH RELEASE 2.3 AND 3.1
-
- Windows 3.1 users: In worksheet files you will share with 1-2-3 Release 2.3
- and 3.1 users, do not replace the font names Arial MT and NewTimesRomanPS
- with their corresponding True Type font names, Arial and New Times Roman;
- 1-2-3 Release 2.3 and 3.1 will not recognize the True Type font names.
-
- NOTE In Windows 3.1, 1-2-3 for Windows automatically uses the True Type
- fonts Arial and NewTimesRoman when you select the ATM fonts Arial MT and
- NewTimesRomanPS, but does not change the font names.
-
- WORKING WITH ATM
-
- The ATM Installer program transfers a file named ATM.INI to your Windows
- directory. Settings in ATM.INI control how ATM works.
-
- After you install ATM, other Windows applications may look slightly
- different on screen, because ATM substitutes its scalable fonts for certain
- Windows bitmap fonts. The point size at which ATM makes this substitution
- is controlled by the SynonymPSBegin= statement in ATM.INI. SynonymPSBegin=
- is initially set to 9; this means ATM substitutes its fonts for Windows
- fonts which are larger than 9 points. If you change this statement to
- SynonymPSBegin=13, ATM substitutes its fonts for Windows fonts which
- are larger than 13 points. Other Windows applications that use 10 and 12
- point fonts will continue to look the same as they did before you
- installed ATM.
-
- If you experience difficulties with ATM soft fonts, you can remove ATM
- from your hard disk and re-install it.
-
- Before you remove ATM from your hard disk, do the following:
-
- 1. If you installed additional fonts, copy those fonts to a temporary
- directory.
-
- 2. Remove all Windows soft fonts from your WIN.INI file. Soft fonts are
- listed with the installed printers. In the example below, an * (asterisk)
- marks each line to remove.
-
- [PostScript,LPT2]
- device=14
- color=2
- feed1=1
- *softfonts=11
- *softfont1=c:\psfonts\pfm\_a______.pfm,c:\psfonts\_a______.pfb
- *softfont2=c:\psfonts\pfm\bdbc____.pfm,c:\psfonts\bdbc____.pfb
-
- To remove ATM from your system, do the following:
-
- 1. End Microsoft Windows.
-
- 2. Change the following lines of your SYSTEM.INI file, which is located in
- your Windows directory:
-
- * Change system.drv=atmsys.drv to system.drv=system.drv
-
- * Delete the line atm.system.drv=system.drv
-
- Note: these lines may be different on some systems (for example, the
- Hewlett-Packard Vectra); however, the result should be a single line
- that reads system.drv=system.drv.
-
- 3. Delete the following files:
-
- * Delete ATM.DLL and ATMSYS.DRV from the \SYSTEM subdirectory of your
- Windows directory.
-
- * Delete ATM.INI and ATMCNTRL.EXE from your Windows directory.
-
- * Delete any .PFM, .PFB, .SFP, and .SFL files from the directories in
- which you installed fonts.
-
- 4. To re-install ATM, start Windows and insert the 1-2-3 disc in your CD-ROM
- drive. Open the Windows Program Manager. Choose File Run. Type
- d:\ATM\INSTALL in the Command Line text box (where d: is the drive letter
- of your CD-ROM drive) and then select OK.
-
-
- **PRINTING PERFORMANCE INFORMATION**
-
- INSTALLING LANDSCAPE FONTS FOR HP PRINTERS
-
- If you are using Windows 3.0 and have an HP LaserJet Plus, HP Classic, or
- HP Series II printer, follow these steps to install landscape fonts.
-
- NOTE You must install 1-2-3 before installing the landscape fonts.
-
- NOTE If you install an HP LaserJet II driver as Unlisted Printer, Windows
- does not copy the file FINSTALL.DLL to the Windows \SYSTEM directory and you
- cannot install fonts for your printer. Look for the file FINSTALL.DLL on the
- disk the printer driver came on. If the file is there, copy it to the
- Windows \SYSTEM directory. If the file is not there, contact the driver
- manufacturer to learn how to receive a copy of FINSTALL.DLL.
-
- To locate the Add fonts dialog box
-
- 1. Open the Windows Control panel and select Printers.
-
- Windows displays a list of printers installed on your system.
-
- 2. If an HP LaserJet Plus, HP Classic, or HP Series II printer is listed,
- highlight it and then select Configure.
-
- The Printers Configure dialog box appears.
-
- 3. Select Setup.
-
- The Setup dialog box for your printer appears.
-
- 4. Select Fonts.
-
- The Printer Font Installer dialog box appears.
-
- 5. Select Add fonts.
-
- The Add fonts dialog box appears and asks you to insert the disk
- with the fonts in drive A.
-
- To add the fonts
-
- 1. Type c:\123mm\HPFONTS in the text box (where c:\123mm is the drive and
- directory where you installed 1-2-3) and select OK. (Do not specify the
- HPFONTS directory on your CD-ROM.)
-
- 2. Highlight the first two fonts in the right-hand list box and select Add.
-
- The Add fonts dialog box appears and displays C:\PCLFONTS as the
- directory to copy the fonts to.
-
- 3. Enter the path for your fonts directory if it is not C:\PCLFONTS and
- select OK.
-
- The Edit dialog box appears.
-
- 4. Type Arial MT in the Name text box.
-
- Make sure you type the font name exactly as it appears in step 4;
- otherwise, ATM will not recognize the font.
-
- 5. Under Family select Swiss and select OK.
-
- Windows adds the first font (Arial MT 12 point) and redisplays the Edit
- dialog box, which contains the correct information for the second font
- (Arial MT 14 point).
-
- 6. Select OK.
-
- The Printer Font Installer dialog box appears.
-
- 7. Highlight the two remaining fonts in the right-hand list box and then
- select Add.
-
- The Add fonts dialog box appears and displays C:\PCLFONTS as the
- directory to copy the fonts to.
-
- 8. Enter the path for your fonts directory if it is not C:\PCLFONTS and
- select OK.
-
- 9. Close the Print Font Installer, Setup, Printers Configure, Printers, and
- Control Panel dialog boxes.
-
- 10. Delete any files with the .PCL extension from your Windows directory.
-
- 11. Delete the c:\123mm\HPFONTS subdirectory (where c:\123mm is the drive and
- directory where you installed 1-2-3).
-
- To verify that you properly installed the new landscape fonts, use a text
- editor to read the file WIN.INI, which is in your Windows directory. You
- should see the following lines under the heading [HPPCL]:
-
- SoftFontx=C:\PCLFONTS\_ALR0120.PFM,C:\PCLFONTS\_A___12$.SFL
- SoftFontx=C:\PCLFONTS\_ALR0140.PFM,C:\PCLFONTS\_A___14$.SFL
- SoftFontx=C:\PCLFONTS\MTLR0100.PFM,C:\PCLFONTS\MTR__10$.SFL
- SoftFontx=C:\PCLFONTS\MTLR0120.PFM,C:\PCLFONTS\MTR__12$.SFL
-
- HP LASERJET III PRINTERS
-
- If you are using 1-2-3 with Windows 3.0, and if your printer is an HP
- LaserJet III (including IIIP, IIID, and IIISI), Lotus recommends that you
- update your Windows driver for this printer to version 30.3.86. The Windows
- driver for the HP LaserJet III version 30.3.86 is located on the 1-2-3
- disc.
-
- If you are using Windows 3.1, do not install printer driver version 30.3.86.
- A later version of the HP LaserJet III driver comes with Windows 3.1.
-
- To find out the version number of your driver, do the following:
-
- 1. Open the Windows Control Panel and select Printers.
-
- Windows displays a list of printers installed on your system.
-
- 2. If an HP LaserJet III printer is listed, highlight it.
-
- 3. Windows 3.0 users only: Select Configure.
-
- The Printers - Configure dialog box appears.
-
- 4. Select Setup.
-
- The Setup dialog box for your printer appears.
-
- 5. Select About to see information about your printer, including the
- version number of the driver.
-
- If your driver version is earlier than 30.3.86, or if an HP LaserJet III
- driver is not installed, read the instructions in HPREADME.TXT on the
- Printer Drivers Disk to learn how to install the new driver.
-
- When you print to an HP LaserJet III, the Arial, Helv, and Helvetica fonts
- are mapped to the Univers font and the TimesNewRomanPS and TmsRmn fonts
- are mapped to the CG Times font.
-
- POSTSCRIPT PRINTING
-
- In order to print quickly on PostScript devices, 1-2-3 for Windows
- bypasses portions of the Windows PostScript driver and uses its own
- drivers. This provides complete compatibility with PostScript output
- from 1-2-3 Release 3.1 and, in most cases, much faster PostScript
- printer performance.
-
- If you want to use only the Windows PostScript driver for printing
- from 1-2-3 for Windows, you must edit your 123W.INI file. Add the
- word "system" to the line postscript= so it reads postscript=system.
- (You must type the word system in all lowercase letters.)
-
- In order to print to PostScript printers as quickly and efficiently as
- possible, 1-2-3 for Windows limits the number of downloaded fonts you
- can use in a single print job. The number of fonts you can download
- depends on the size of the fonts and the amount of memory installed in
- your PostScript printer.
-
- The maximum number of downloaded fonts is controlled by the
- numpostfonts= statement in 123W.INI. The initial default value is 5,
- but you can change it to a higher number if your printer has more memory.
-
- If the number of downloaded fonts you use in your print job is greater
- than the value specified by numpostfonts=, 1-2-3 automatically tells the
- Windows PostScript printer driver to generate the PostScript code for the
- print job.
-
- Different PostScript printers contain different internal fonts.
- 1-2-3 for Windows supports the Standard 35 font set. If your PostScript
- printer contains a different internal font set, you may see some
- inconsistencies between your displayed and printed work. If you want to
- use a font that is included in your PostScript printer but is not
- supported by 1-2-3 for Windows, use the Windows PostScript driver to print
- from 1-2-3 for Windows; add the word "system" to the statement
- postscript= so it reads postscript=system. (You must type the word system
- in all lowercase letters.)
-
- NOTE If you specify multiple copies in the Setup dialog box for your
- printer, change the statement postscript= to postscript=system.
-
- If you want to set a scaling percentage for print jobs sent to a PostScript
- printer, use the option Manually size in File Page Setup instead of the
- Scaling option in Windows.
-
-
- **ENHANCED RANGE SELECTION**
-
- You can now highlight a range and use F3 (NAMES) from within a dialog box
- when 1-2-3 is in EDIT mode as well as POINT mode.
-
-
- **DDE**
-
- 1-2-3 FOR WINDOWS AS A SERVER APPLICATION
-
- The format for execute strings sent to 1-2-3 for Windows is
-
- [run("command_string")]
-
- where command_string is any 1-2-3 for Windows command, including macros.
-
- DDE SYSTEM TOPIC
-
- 1-2-3 for Windows supports a special topic called System, which provides
- a context for items of information that may be of general interest to
- other applications. The System items that 1-2-3 for Windows supports are
- listed below. 1-2-3 responds to a request for any of these items in
- tab-delimited, CF_TEXT format. Each string is terminated with a carriage-
- return and linefeed characters, for example, \r\n (CRLF).
-
- SysItems
- Returns a list of all System-topic items supported by 1-2-3 for Windows.
- Example: SysItems\tTopics\tFormats...\r\n
-
- Topics
- Returns a list of all 1-2-3 for Windows DDE topics, including all files
- in memory plus the special System topic.
- Example: System\tC:\123W\SALES.WK3\tC:\123W\EMPLOYEE.WK3...\r\n
-
- Formats
- Returns a list of all Clipboard formats that 1-2-3 for Windows supports.
- This list does not distinguish between formats that can be only copied
- or only pasted and formats that can be both copied and pasted.
- Example: Lotus123Private\tWk3\tWk1\tTEXT\tBITMAP...\r\n
-
- Selection

- characters separate each range and CRLF characters precede each new
- file name.
- Example: C:\123W\FILE1.WK3\tRANGE1\tB:A1..B:B9\tRANGE2\tC:B28..C:D45\r\n
- C:\123W\FILE2.WK3\t\RANGE1\tD:Z1..E:Z100\r\n
-
-
- **COMMAND-LINE PARAMETERS**
-
- To specify command-line parameters for 1-2-3 for Windows
-
- 1. Highlight the 1-2-3 for Windows icon.
-
- 2. Choose File Properties from the Windows Program Manager.
-
- 3. In the Command Line text box, append a command-line parameter to
- 123W.EXE. (For example, C:\123W\123W.EXE -s)
-
- You can specify the following command-line parameters:
-
- -s
- Makes 1-2-3 for Windows use the software floating point driver instead
- of a math coprocessor. Use this parameter if you have a defective math
- coprocessor in your computer or if your computer tells 1-2-3 you have a
- math coprocessor when you do not. Under these circumstances, all your
- formulas may evaluate to 0, ERR, or *** (asterisks).
-
- -i [filename.ini]
- Lets you specify an initialization file other than 123W.INI. For example,
- C:\123W\123W.EXE -iC:\123W\MYINI.INI specifies the initialization file
- C:\123W\MYINI.INI.
-
- NOTE If you use 1-2-3 for Windows with Lotus Notes Document Inset
- Protocol (DIP), you must have 123W.INI in your Windows directory.
-
- filename
- Lets you specify a file to load whenever you start 1-2-3.
-
-
- **CORRECTIONS TO THE PRINTED DOCUMENTATION**
- (Note: The corrections below have already been made in the Online Books.
- The Online Books, however, do not describe the multimedia changes to the
- Help menu. For this information, see Using SmartHelp under 1-2-3 Help
- Contents.)
-
- The definition of F9 (CALC) on page 28 of the User's Guide should say:
- F9 (CALC) calculates all formulas in all active files, except for formulas
- that refer to worksheet files on disk.
-
- Step 1. of the procedure on page 176 of the User's Guide should include the
- following note: If you are working in the Untitled worksheet, save it with
- File Save before creating a DDE link.
-
- Disregard references to named icon palettes in the following parts of
- the documentation:
-
- * Page 16 of Quick Start for 1-2-3 Upgraders
-
- * Page 12 and 13 of the User's Guide.
-
- The command Tools Icon Palette should be Tools SmartIcons in the following
- parts of the documentation:
-
- * Chapter 1 of the User's Guide
-
- * Chapters 1 through 3 of Quick Start for 1-2-3 Upgraders
-
- * The SmartIcons Quick Reference
-
- In the User's Guide and Quick Start for 1-2-3 Upgraders, the definition of
- the DEL key and the Edit Clear command should be "Deletes the cell contents
- of selected cells without using the Clipboard." DEL and Edit Clear do not
- delete formatting.
-
- The Tips on pages 36 and 54 of DataLens Drivers for 1-2-3 will not work
- for drivers and databases that require passwords. If you are unable to
- complete Data Connect to External or Data External Options commands, use
- /Data External from 1-2-3 Classic.
-
- The macro command {DDE-CLOSE} includes a new optional argument:
- conversation-number. The first three sections of the Help topic
- {DDE-CLOSE} should read:
-
- {DDE-CLOSE [conversation-number]} terminates a conversation with a Windows
- application.
-
- Arguments
- conversation-number is an optional argument that specifies the unique
- identification number Windows assigns to the conversation. If you use the
- optional location argument in {DDE-OPEN}, 1-2-3 enters the identification
- number in the worksheet.
-
- Notes
- If you do not include conversation-number, {DDE-CLOSE} closes the current
- conversation. If you make conversation-number -1, {DDE-CLOSE} closes all
- open conversations. If no conversation is open, {DDE-CLOSE} does nothing.
-
-
- **EXTERNAL DATABASE ERROR MESSAGES**
-
- Error conditions that previously resulted in the error message "External
- database processing error" now produce a database-specific message.
